Sir Michael Morpurgo.
What a great treat and honour to be invited to the Mane Chance Sanctuary Christmas fundraising lunch by its wonderful Director and founder, actress Jenny Seagrove, and to meet the acclaimed author, poet and playwright Sir Michael Morpurgo who was guest of honour.
Sir Michael’s book and the subsequent film WAR HORSE inspires all we do at The War Horse Memorial CIC and our Purple Poppy Appeal. When you meet one of your heroes you hope it will be magical – and it was. He spoke fondly of his love of horses and growing understanding of the empathy and healing they can have with people, particularly children. And he read from his latest book Grandpa Christmas, a beautiful personal story about a grandpa’s wish for his granddaughter – a hopeful plea to little Mia ( and to all of us) to continue to care for and protect our precious world. He signed one of his special hardback editions of WAR HORSE which our Master of Ceremonies, Chris Hollins, BBC journalist and presenter, and winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2009, will auction at our own fundraising dinner and dance on Saturday (December 15, 2018) at Coworth Park, in Berkshire.
