King Charles salutes work of our supporters in letter from the Palace
King Charles has acknowledged the work we do to remember the service and sacrifice of animals in war.
In a letter to The War Horse Memorial, the Monarch sends his “warmest good wishes” for our “commendable work” and says he was “truly touched” to hear stories of animals remembered on International War Animal Day earlier this year.
The message comes as we celebrate VE DAY 80 and as we ask the nation once again to acknowledge alongside the loss of human life, the millions of horses, mules, donkeys, dogs, pigeons and cats whose lives were also lost in a conflict which secured a long-lasting peace.
Susan Osborne, co-founder of The War Horse Memorial and The Animal Purple Poppy Fund, says receiving a message of support from The King was a surprise and a delight. “To know that the Monarch recognises the work we do is a wonderful reflection on all our supporters. The vets practices, the schools, the voluntary groups and individuals who buy and sell our pin badges and knitted poppies so we can help animal sanctuaries and charities.”
