Kneller Hall Gala Concert
Kneller Hall Gala concert.
Saturday, July 20th, 2019.More than 8,000 people enjoyed the CAMUS 25 Gala Concert at Kneller Hall, Twickenham to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Royal Corps of Army Music. War Horse Memorial was there to support two of our very special friends who had leading roles in the glittering event... Major Craig Hallatt, Chief Instructor at the Royal Military School of Music and Chelsea Pensioner Colin Thackery, winner of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent competition. The programme of music opened with Craig conducting the band as they played his own composition Argenteus, thoughtful and stirring - and the perfect start to a wonderful evening. Soon after it was the turn of Colin to sing Wind Beneath My Wings, conducted by Maj (Retd) Phil Shannon MBE, who is Captain of Invalids at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. It's hard to believe that pitch perfect Colin is 89 and relatively new to singing live for such a big audience such was his confident performance. We first met Colin, one of our new Ambassadors, at the Royal Artillery Assembly in Blackpool in May and again on June 8 when he sang at our Purple Poppy Ball at Ascot Racecourse.
Craig has been with us from the outset. He specially wrote Elegy To The War Horse ( pictured), a haunting and enigmatic tribute to war horses everywhere, was appointed as Director of Music, The Band of The Household Cavalry in February 2015. And as a composer he has written and arranged music for major events such as the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, The Basel Tattoo and the Berlin Music Parade. TV credits include Trooping the Colour, Britain’s Got Talent and the Household Division Beating Retreat on Horse Guards. He is senior music advisor to several International Military events and is the founder of Dreamscape Orchestrations and Media Scoring. This wonderful musical tribute costs £10 if you buy from OUR SHOP on the website.
